Start solid foods at your own pace

Solid foods should not be given before your child is four months old. Many children are ready around six months. FirstBites helps you keep track of the foods your child tries.

What you can do now

Three simple steps

Start when your child is ready

Children develop at different rates. Look for signs that your child is ready for solid foods, and speak with your child health clinic if you are unsure.

Try one food at a time

Small tastes can make it easier for your child to get to know different flavours and for you to remember what they have tried.

Milk is still important

Breast milk or infant formula remains the main food at first, even when your child starts solid foods.

How FirstBites can help

Log the foods your child tries, and see suggestions for new foods or foods to try again.

When to ask for advice

Ask your child health clinic or doctor if you are unsure when to start, or have questions about your child's growth or food.
